Description

The Moonpool is a sealed docking chamber built into the lower portion of a base. Pilots can enter their Seamoth or PRAWN Suit directly from inside the base, charge the vehicle while it's docked, and deploy straight down into open ocean. It is the single most important utility structure for any mid-to-late game base, since it doubles as the upgrade station access point for vehicles.

How to Build

Build the Moonpool using the Habitat Builder, attaching it beneath a Foundation or Multipurpose Room. Place the highlight on the underside of the structure and confirm placement; the Moonpool automatically carves a shaft down to the seafloor.

What it Does

The Moonpool is the anchor for vehicle operations in Subnautica 2. It removes the friction of surface-swimming between dives and gives you reliable recharging without swapping batteries by hand.

Vehicle Docking

Stores your Seamoth or PRAWN Suit inside the base, protected from hostile fauna while idle.

Charging

Charges docked vehicles continuously using base power; no need to swap batteries mid-expedition.

Upgrade Access

Provides direct access to the Modification Station so you can swap modules without leaving the vehicle.

Base Integration

Pair the Moonpool with a Solar Panel array and a Bioreactor to keep docked vehicles charged overnight and to power your Modification Station.

Map Locations

Build the Moonpool anywhere with enough water depth for vehicle deployment. Shallow-water bases benefit most from a docked Seamoth, while deeper bases unlock PRAWN Suit use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Moonpool do in Subnautica 2?

The Moonpool is a sealed docking facility that lets you store, charge, and quickly board your Seamoth or PRAWN Suit without leaving the base. It's the single most important utility structure for any mid-to-late game base.

How much does a Moonpool cost to build?

A Moonpool costs 5x Titanium, 1x Lead, and 1x Reinforcement, and must be built with the Habitat Builder. Lead is mined from sandstone outcrops in deeper biomes.

Do I need a Moonpool to use the Seamoth or PRAWN Suit?

You can deploy vehicles without a Moonpool, but you cannot charge or upgrade them inside the base without one. Build a Moonpool as soon as you finish your first Multipurpose Room to keep your vehicles operational.
