Description

The Stalker is a sleek, powerful predator that dominates the kelp forest biome. It is instantly recognizable by its elongated body, rows of sharp teeth, and the menacing way it tracks movement in the water. Stalkers are highly aggressive and will attack players on sight, making the kelp forest one of the most dangerous early-game biomes to traverse. Their most notable quirk is an attraction to metal objects — they will often abandon a chase to investigate or steal metallic items, which can be used as a distraction tactic.

Behavior & Ecology

Stalkers patrol the kelp forest in search of prey, using the towering kelp stalks as cover for ambushes. They are territorial and will pursue anything that enters their hunting grounds, including players and smaller fauna. Their attraction to metal is well-documented — Stalkers will often grab metal scrap or cameras and carry them around, sometimes dropping Stalker Teeth in the process. This behavior can be exploited both for distraction and for farming Stalker Teeth, a valuable crafting material.

Metal Attraction

Stalkers are drawn to metal objects and will divert from a chase to investigate or steal them. Drop metal scrap to create an opening.

Aggressive Hunter

Attacks on sight and will pursue players through the kelp forest. Deals significant damage with each bite.

How to Deal With / Approach

Stalkers are aggressive and hit hard, so direct confrontation is risky without proper gear. The most reliable survival tactic is to exploit their metal attraction: carry metal scrap and drop it near an attacking Stalker to redirect its attention. When crossing kelp forests, move quickly and stay near the edges where Stalkers are less concentrated. A Seamoth or other vehicle provides protection and a speed advantage to outrun pursuit.

Distract with Metal

Drop metal scrap near an attacking Stalker. It will usually abandon the chase to investigate the metal, giving you time to escape.

Move Quickly

Don't linger in kelp forests. Transit through fast and stick to the edges to minimize Stalker encounters.

Use a Vehicle

A Seamoth absorbs Stalker bites and outpaces them. Use it for safe kelp forest traversal and resource gathering.

Drops & Resources

Stalkers are not edible, but they occasionally drop Stalker Teeth when they interact with metal objects. This makes them a valuable, if dangerous, source of a crafting material. You can farm Stalker Teeth by placing metal scrap near Stalkers and waiting for them to pick it up and drop teeth.

Stalker Tooth

RARE DROP

Occasionally dropped when Stalkers interact with metal objects. Used in advanced crafting recipes and enameled glass.

Bioreactor Fuel

ENERGY

If killed, Stalker remains can be used as biomass fuel. High yield but risky to obtain.

Map Locations

Stalkers are the dominant predator of the kelp forest biome, found between 50m and 200m depth. They patrol among the kelp stalks and are especially dense near the center of large kelp forests. Use the interactive map to identify kelp forest zones and plan safe traversal routes along the edges.

Frequently Asked Questions

How dangerous are Stalkers?

Stalkers are highly dangerous predators that will attack on sight. They deal significant damage and can quickly overwhelm unprepared players, especially in the confined spaces of the kelp forest where evasion is difficult. Without a vehicle or a distraction plan, a Stalker encounter can turn lethal fast.

Can I feed Stalkers?

Stalkers are attracted to metal objects and can be distracted by dropping metal scrap near them, but they cannot be tamed or permanently pacified. The distraction is temporary — once the Stalker loses interest in the metal, it will resume its aggressive behavior. Use the window to escape, not to linger.

How to avoid Stalkers?

Travel through kelp forests quickly, stay near the surface or seafloor edges where Stalkers are less concentrated, and use a vehicle to absorb attacks. Dropping metal scrap can temporarily distract them and create an escape window. Avoid swimming through the dense center of kelp forests when possible.
