Kyanite
Kyanite is a rare crystalline resource found only in the deepest biomes. Required for advanced vehicle upgrades and reactor components, it gates the final tier of depth progression and late-game power generation.
Quick Info
How to Get & Where to Find
Kyanite spawns as large crystalline deposits on deep cave walls and is mined exclusively with the Prawn Suit Drill Arm. You will not find it in outcrops or on the seabed. The two primary biomes are the Deep Grand Reef and the Lava Zone, both of which require significant vehicle investment to reach safely.
Deep Grand Reef
300–600m — blue crystalline deposits on cave walls. Earliest accessible Kyanite source.
Mid-late game — predator-heavyLava Zone
800–1500m — dense Kyanite clusters in the molten depths. Highest yield per trip.
Endgame — extreme heatLost River (Transition)
400–900m — occasional Kyanite on the path toward the Lava Zone entrance.
En route to deeper biomesUses & Recipes
Kyanite is an endgame-gating resource. The Cyclops Shield Module protects your sub from leviathan attacks, the Prawn Suit Depth Module pushes your suit past 900m, and the Nuclear Reactor provides the highest sustained power output of any base generator.
Cyclops Shield Module
Generates a defensive energy shield for the Cyclops against leviathan attacks.
Prawn Suit Depth Module
Extends Prawn Suit crush depth to reach the Lava Zone and beyond.
Nuclear Reactor
Highest-capacity base power generator for large underwater installations.

Tips & Strategy
Bring the Prawn Suit
Kyanite deposits are large resource nodes that require the Prawn Suit Drill Arm. There is no hand-harvest option, so you must have the Prawn Suit deployed and a depth module installed before attempting a Kyanite run.
Shield Before You Drill
The Lava Zone is home to Sea Dragon Leviathans. Deploy a Cyclops shield burst or keep the Prawn Suit grappling arm ready so you can flee mid-drill if a hostile approaches your position.
Equip Thermal Protection
Lava Zone temperatures will damage you rapidly. A Reinforced Dive Suit or Prawn Suit with heat-resistant plating is essential. Monitor your hull integrity while drilling near lava flows.
Stock Up Before Diving
A single Lava Zone run can yield 8–12 Kyanite. Bring extra power cells, repair tools, and medkits. The round trip is long, so maximize storage capacity before you commit to the dive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where to find Kyanite?
Kyanite is found in the Deep Grand Reef (300–600m) and Lava Zone (800–1500m) biomes. It spawns as large crystalline deposits on cave walls. The Deep Grand Reef is the more accessible source for your first Kyanite run; the Lava Zone offers higher density but requires extreme depth protection.
What is Kyanite used for?
Kyanite is used for the Cyclops Shield Module, the Prawn Suit Depth Module, and the Nuclear Reactor. These three recipes represent the pinnacle of vehicle defense, depth exploration, and base power generation respectively, making Kyanite essential for endgame progression.
Do I need Prawn Suit for Kyanite?
Yes. Kyanite deposits are large resource nodes that can only be mined with the Prawn Suit Drill Arm. You cannot harvest them with a hand tool or the Seamoth. Make sure your Prawn Suit has a depth module rated for the biome you plan to visit.
